Kingston Businessman Charged in Alleged Vehicle Import Fraud

A Kingston businessman has been charged with fraudulent conversion following an investigation into payments made for the importation of a motor vehicle.

Police identified the accused as 36-year-old Kevaughn Black of Tunbridge Terrace, Kingston 6. Reports state that a complainant agreed to purchase a vehicle for $8.75 million and made two payments totaling $8 million after being told the vehicle had arrived.

Despite repeated assurances that the car was being cleared and would soon be ready, it was never delivered. The complainant later requested a refund, which was reportedly promised on multiple occasions but not paid.

The matter was reported to police, and Black later attended the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Investigations Branch office with his attorney. After a question-and-answer session, he was taken into custody and charged.

His court date is now being finalized.

Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious when making large payments for imported vehicles and to report suspected fraud to the police.
