Body of Teen Recovered After Vehicle Plunges into Rio Cobre

The body of 17-year-old Oniesh Derby was recovered after a vehicle he was driving plunged into the Rio Cobre in St Catherine on Monday night. Key Points: The incident occurred near Flat Bridge. Derby reportedly lost control of a Toyota Hiace motor truck. The vehicle veered off the road and entered the river. Jamaica Defence Force divers recovered the body on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed that the teenage driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling along the roadway, resulting in the vehicle leaving the road and plunging into the Rio Cobre. Emergency teams later initiated recovery efforts. Divers from the Jamaica Defence Force successfully retrieved the body approximately one day after the incident. No additional casualties have been reported. The Flat Bridge area has long been regarded as a challenging route for motorists due to its narrow structure and proximity to the river. Ice Cream Vendor Killed in Downtown Kingston Crash on King Street


 An ice cream shop operator has died following a late-night motor vehicle collision on King Street in downtown Kingston.

The victim, Tamara Manning of Fletcher’s Land, was reportedly sitting on the sidewalk outside her business around 10:00 p.m. when two vehicles—a Toyota Probox and a Toyota Mark X—collided. CCTV footage allegedly shows one vehicle attempting to overtake the other before impact.

Police say the Mark X then left the roadway and struck Manning. She was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

The Kingston Central Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage while collecting witness statements.

Authorities are urging motorists to drive responsibly, as investigations continue into another fatal crash on Kingston’s busy streets.
