Body of Teen Recovered After Vehicle Plunges into Rio Cobre

The body of 17-year-old Oniesh Derby was recovered after a vehicle he was driving plunged into the Rio Cobre in St Catherine on Monday night. Key Points: The incident occurred near Flat Bridge. Two Men Arrested After Suspected Cocaine Seizure in St Mary


Two men are in custody after detectives seized three parcels of a substance resembling cocaine during an operation along the Tower Isle main road in St Mary on Friday. Investigators from the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division acted on intelligence and intercepted two vehicles in the area.

During the search of a white Toyota Corolla Fielder, police found the parcels behind the front passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to the police station for further examination. In the second vehicle, officers discovered more than $600,000. Although no drugs were found, investigators say the occupants could not properly explain the source of the cash, leading to its seizure.

Both vehicles have been secured for processing, and the two men are being held pending further investigations. Their identities are currently being withheld.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to disrupt narcotics trafficking and associated criminal activities in St Mary and other parishes. Forensic testing will determine whether the seized substance is cocaine.
