Edwin Allen High Mourns Student Killed in Clarendon Crash

Edwin Allen High School in Clarendon is grieving the loss of 14-year-old grade nine student Jaydon Smith, who died following a single-vehicle crash on the Chapelton main road on Sunday night. He had been travelling with a relative when the accident occurred and later died at the hospital.

The school clarified that the deceased should not be confused with another 14-year-old, Jayden Smith of Manchester High School, who is still listed as missing.

On Monday, students gathered quietly in the quadrangle as they processed the news. The school’s behaviour management and student services team held a grief-counselling devotional session, supported by guidance counsellors, HFLE teachers, and medical staff. Because of the rotational schedule caused by recent hurricane damage, only upper-school students were on campus, but counselling resources will be extended to all students.

Principal Jermaine Harris said psychosocial support is now being offered to both students and staff as they cope with the tragedy.

Summary:
• Edwin Allen student Jaydon Smith, 14, dies in a crash
• Students attended a grief-counselling devotional session
• School providing ongoing psychosocial support

The school community continues to mourn as support services remain in place to help students manage their grief.
