District constable charged in Portland assault case following Indecom investigation.

A district constable in Portland has been charged following a domestic incident reported in January 2024. District Constable Cavell Minott appeared in the Portland Parish Court on November 26 to answer to charges relating to the alleged assault of a woman and a young child in the White River District.

The Independent Commission of Investigations conducted a probe into the matter and submitted its findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The ODPP ruled that Minott should be charged in relation to the injuries reported by the complainants. The woman and child sought medical care after the incident, and their injuries were not considered permanent.

Minott has been bound over to January 27, 2026, to organise legal counsel and complete disclosure obligations. A trial date will be scheduled following the next court appearance.

Indecom noted that since January 2024, fifty-three law enforcement officers have been charged in connection with matters arising from its investigations, reflecting ongoing accountability efforts.

The case now awaits further court proceedings as investigative and judicial processes continue.
