New Little London Police Station Opens to Support Security and Disaster Resilience

A new police station has been officially opened in Little London, Westmoreland, providing the parish with enhanced security infrastructure and a stronger base for disaster response. The $175-million facility was built through the Ministry of National Security’s Project ROC initiative in partnership with the National Housing Trust.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, speaking at the opening ceremony, noted that although the event followed closely after the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, it was important to proceed. He emphasized that the station will serve not only as a law enforcement hub but also as a community asset during recovery efforts.

Westmoreland, along with St Elizabeth and St James, suffered significant damage when the Category 5 storm struck Jamaica. Holness praised members of the JCF and JDF for their service throughout the crisis, highlighting how police stations became community centers for communication, device charging, and general safety.

The new Little London facility includes administrative areas, living quarters, and a holding section. It was designed with resilience in mind, featuring reinforced construction and backup power to support operations during emergencies.

The opening is part of a national effort to modernize and strengthen police infrastructure to better serve communities and improve disaster readiness. As Jamaica continues to recover from Hurricane Melissa, the station is expected to play an important role in both public safety and community stability moving forward.
