Prime Minister Andrew Holness has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to using Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool to transform Jamaica’s workforce and boost economic growth.
Speaking at the Amber Group’s 10th Anniversary Gala and AI Robotics Showcase on October 14, 2025, Holness said the goal is not to replace workers with technology but to enhance their capabilities through training and innovation.
“The solution is not to hide from technology or fear it,” he said. “The solution is to use technology to increase the level of training and skills in our society so that our people can take on higher-order tasks that bring higher-order pay.”
The Prime Minister announced the establishment of a National AI Laboratory at the University of Technology (UTech), with plans to expand similar facilities across Jamaica. These labs aim to expose students to AI early and strengthen the country’s foundation in digital literacy and innovation.
Holness also praised Amber Group and its founder Ambassador Dushyant Savadia for their partnership with the Government through initiatives like the Amber HEART Academy, which has trained hundreds of young Jamaicans in software development and coding.
He added that Jamaica’s future competitiveness depends on how well it integrates AI into its economy, noting that responsible adoption will be key to ensuring inclusive growth.
