Beryllium Guard Arrested After $15M Theft from Armoured Truck

A 42-year-old Beryllium Limited security guard has been arrested following the theft of over $15 million from an armoured truck in St Andrew on October 11.

Police say the guard, part of a three-member team assigned to collect cash from the MegaMart Superstore on Waterloo Road, allegedly fled with the money after removing his uniform and leaving behind his assigned firearm. CCTV footage captured him exiting the compound with the cash bag.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force confirmed the guard’s arrest after a seven-day manhunt. He was taken into custody at a premises in St Andrew. Investigators are still determining whether other individuals were involved.

Beryllium Limited and its parent company, Guardsman Group, have expressed confidence that the funds will be recovered. Group Managing Director David Whittaker said the incident was not only about recovering money but also about defending the integrity of the men and women who serve in the security sector.

Closing Line:
The investigation continues as authorities and Beryllium work together to ensure accountability and maintain public confidence in Jamaica’s private security operations.
