Murder Suspect in Mandeville Standoff Had History of Armed Robberies

A man fatally shot during a police standoff in Mandeville earlier this week has been identified as Dave Wilson, 54, a Jamaican national with a history of violent crime abroad.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Wilson allegedly shot and killed 31-year-old Adrian Bernard following an argument over the cost of an item. Police say Wilson returned with a firearm and opened fire on Bernard, who later died from his injuries.

Wilson fled the scene, and police tracked him to an apartment on Caledonia Road. During the attempted arrest, Wilson reportedly fired at officers, sparking a multi-hour standoff. The security forces used armored vehicles to breach the premises before Wilson was fatally shot.

Authorities recovered an Omni Hybrid multi-calibre rifle, a Pietro Beretta 9mm pistol, and more than 700 rounds of ammunition at the scene.

International reports reveal that Wilson had previously served time in Canada for armed robberies and had been deported multiple times. In 2003, he and an accomplice were arrested after a failed armored truck robbery in Toronto that escalated into a hostage situation.

The incident has reignited concerns about repeat offenders with international criminal ties and the dangers they pose to local communities.
