Police in St Ann have arrested several individuals and seized a submachine gun along with multiple rounds of ammunition during two operations on Friday.
The first operation, carried out around 7:00 a.m. in Bamboo, led to the detention of six people. Among those held was a person of interest in a murder investigation. Police also arrested one man on a civil court warrant and another for alleged breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act. Three women were taken into custody for processing.
Later in the day, around 2:00 p.m., the Specialized Operations Branch partnered with St Ann police for a second raid in Green Acres, Mammee Bay. Officers searched three premises and discovered a Kel-Tec submachine gun with sixteen 9mm rounds, a Glock magazine with twelve 9mm rounds, and eleven 5.56 rounds of ammunition. Two people were arrested in connection with the find.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has not released the identities of those detained. The arrests form part of wider national efforts to combat violent crime and remove illegal firearms from communities. Authorities say these operations are essential to disrupting criminal networks and reducing the risk of gun violence across the island.
