Illegal Firearm Seized During Police Operation in Rose Heights

Police have confirmed the recovery of an illegal firearm during an operation in Rose Heights, St. James, on Sunday, September 7.

Reports indicate that around 8:26 p.m., officers from the Specialized Operations Branch observed a man at the entrance of a premises in Hill View Close acting suspiciously. As the team approached, the man ran, dropped a firearm, and managed to escape.

The police recovered a 9mm Smith and Wesson Springfield pistol with a magazine containing eight 9mm cartridges. The weapon was secured, and investigations are now underway to identify and locate the suspect.

Authorities note that firearm seizures are a critical part of their strategy to reduce violent crime, particularly in St. James, where illegal weapons have fueled gang-related violence in recent years. The operation is part of wider measures by the Jamaica Constabulary Force to enhance safety in high-risk communities.

While the suspect remains at large, the successful recovery of the weapon prevents its potential use in criminal activity. The police are urging the public to share any information that could assist in their investigations.
