📍MAMMEE BAY, ST ANN — JAMAICA
A taxi ride turned deadly Wednesday afternoon after a brutal shooting left both the driver and his passenger dead near Mammee Bay in St Ann.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m., when the victims — traveling in a Toyota Probox — were ambushed by a man posing as a passenger. He allegedly opened fire inside the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The St Ann police are actively investigating, and authorities have locked off sections of the Drax Hall to Mammee Bay main road, bringing traffic to a complete halt. Commuters are being diverted through Steer Town to avoid the crime scene.
⚠️ ONGOING INVESTIGATION
Police are working to determine the identity of the shooter and the motive behind the killings. No arrest has been made as of now. Sources suggest the attacker boarded the taxi as an ordinary customer before carrying out the shooting — raising concerns about the safety of public transportation services.
🕯️ TRAGEDY & PUBLIC IMPACT
This daylight double murder has shaken the quiet coastal town, leaving residents and fellow taxi operators fearful. The attack, happening in a usually busy tourist route, has also triggered safety concerns for both local commuters and visitors in the area.
🗣️ OUR OPINION
This was a calculated and cold act of violence. If a gunman can casually ride alongside civilians before executing them in broad daylight, then we have a national crisis of safety. Taxi drivers — already facing the risks of the road — now must worry about passengers with deadly intent. Authorities need to swiftly bring the killer to justice and rebuild public trust in commuter safety.
Keep your eyes open. Know who you're riding with.
We demand better protection for our taxi drivers and everyday Jamaicans.
