KINGSTON, JAMAICA
The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has issued a stern warning to car dealers, truck operators, and roadside mechanics who continue to misuse sidewalks and block public roadways legal action is now on the table.
On Friday, City Inspector Alrick Francis supervised a major sweep on Bloomsbury Road, where several derelict vehicles and large trucks were removed for obstructing pedestrian access. "I'm sending a warning to the operators: Do not return. If you return, we will be taking legal action,” Francis declared.
⚠️ Ongoing Enforcement
Francis specifically addressed flatbed and cesspool truck drivers and car dealerships using sidewalks as display areas. “The sidewalks are not showrooms. They are for pedestrians and free passage — not advertisements,” he warned.
π―️ Community Disruption
Residents have voiced their frustration, explaining that blocked sidewalks force them to walk in the street, creating safety hazards. KSAMC also reported damaged fire hydrants caused by unlicensed mechanics operating illegally on public property.
π£️ KSAMC Cleans Up
As part of its Clean-Up Kingston Initiative, KSAMC successfully removed 10 derelict vehicles and five large trucks from the area. Francis emphasized this is just the beginning: “These selfish operations will not be tolerated.”
π The Bigger Picture
KSAMC says the crackdown will continue across the municipality, targeting all forms of sidewalk abuse, from abandoned vehicles to illegal garages and commercial encroachment. KINGSTON, JAMAICA
