ELECTRICITY RESTORED TO OVER 41,000 CUSTOMERS FOLLOWING STORM OUTAGE — JPS UPDATE

KINGSTON, JAMAICA

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has announced that power has been restored to the majority of customers affected by a severe weather system earlier today. Over 41,000 out of 50,000 customers who experienced outages due to strong winds and flying debris have now had service restored, according to a 6:30 PM update.

SQUALL LINE DISRUPTION
The outage was caused by a squall line that swept across several parishes, hurling zinc sheets and other debris into power lines, leading to widespread disruptions. The most affected areas include Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, and Trelawny.

🔧 RESTORATION PROGRESS CONTINUES
JPS confirmed that only 8,857 customers remain without power, and crews are working urgently to restore supply by midnight tonight. The company activated its Incident Command Centre to coordinate recovery efforts and fast-track response in the most critical zones.

🚧 SAFETY FIRST
JPS is urging the public to exercise extreme caution, especially near fallen wires or unstable debris. Customers are also advised to report outages or electrical hazards through the JPS mobile app, official website, or by calling 888-CALL-JPS (888-225-5577).

🗣️ OUR OPINION
Natural disasters are unpredictable, but rapid restoration response matters—and JPS has shown solid coordination today. However, with Jamaica's storm season already heating up, proactive grid management and resilience planning will be more crucial than ever.
