Dancehall artist Squash, whose real name is Andrae Maurice Whittaker, is facing serious legal trouble after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a gun-related arrest. According to the arrest report, the FBI had been monitoring Squash before his arrest and contacted local police when Squash was seen interacting with the subject of an ongoing investigation.
The report details that Squash was standing outside the passenger side of a grey Mercedes-Benz when the subject of the FBI's investigation allegedly handed him a firearm. Squash placed the weapon in his waistband before sitting in the car. This prompted the FBI to notify local authorities.
Shortly thereafter, local police followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver, Zidanne George Prescott, fail to fully stop at a stop sign and make an improper left turn without signaling. During the search of the vehicle, police found a modified Glock 19 pistol, known as a ‘Chip Glock,’ in the passenger side glove compartment, a Glock 35 .40 caliber pistol with an extended clip on the driver's side, and three loaded magazines in the car. Prescott, who was driving with a suspended license, was also arrested.
Squash and Prescott were both charged with gun possession, with bond set at US$500 for the concealed carry charge and US$2,500 for the possession charge. After posting bail, Squash was taken into ICE custody, where an immigration hold was placed due to his lack of legal status in the U.S. Squash is also reportedly before an immigration court for a separate matter.
