Three-Time Cancer Survivor's Dedication to Vybz Kartel Ends Unforgettable Journey

Ingrid Morgan, a three-time cancer survivor and self-proclaimed biggest fan of dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel, went to extraordinary lengths to attend Freedom Street in Jamaica. Her journey, filled with obstacles and unexpected turns, is a testament to her unwavering dedication and love for the artist.

A Fan’s Determination

Morgan, accompanied by her daughter Oneilia, spent over US$3,000 to make the trip from Florida to Jamaica on December 31, the day of the event. Despite battling health issues and financial struggles, she was determined to witness the highly anticipated show.

“We travelled a rough road, and it didn’t turn out the way we expected, but it was worth it a billion times. I don’t regret a single cent,” said Morgan.

Travel Woes

The journey began with a missed flight due to heavy traffic and overcrowded check-ins at the airport. Forced to pay an additional US$350, Morgan and her daughter arrived in Jamaica near midday, exhausted and frustrated. Her health worsened as her legs swelled and she felt increasingly unwell.

Hotel Chaos

After landing, their troubles continued when a booking error left them stranded in the lobby of the Courtyard Marriott for over six hours. With no money and no immediate resolution, Morgan recalled feeling defeated.

“The general manager eventually helped resolve the issue, but we were tired and frustrated by then,” she said.

The Freedom Street Letdown

Despite securing accommodations, the person who had promised them VIP tickets failed to deliver. Stranded without access to affordable tickets, Morgan had to rely on her daughter in New York for financial assistance. Ultimately, they purchased two bleachers tickets outside the venue, which allowed them only a partial view of the event through a big screen.

“I didn’t even understand what bleachers meant, but my daughter is a trooper. A kind man lent me his seat so I could sit for a bit,” Morgan shared.

A Helping Hand in Crisis

The challenges didn’t end there. Upon preparing to return home, Morgan discovered her US passport had expired. Cashless and stranded, dancehall artiste Macka Diamond came to her rescue.

“Macka booked us another hotel and even stayed there with us. She gave us funds to sort out our issues at the embassy. I am forever grateful to her,” Morgan said, praising Macka for her kindness and compassion.

A Journey Worth Every Struggle

Despite the hardships, Morgan remains thankful she made it to Freedom Street, even if it wasn’t the experience she envisioned. Her story is a reminder of the power of determination and the lengths fans will go to connect with the artists who inspire them.

“God carried us through, and for that, I am grateful,” she concluded.
